For Bremer productions at the Schwankhalle
from January-December 2025 – application deadline May 17

Dear Bremer artists and artists’ groups: Are you planning a new production in the field of performance, dance or theater and would you like to develop it at the Schwankhalle? Do you intend to apply for single project funding at the Senator for Culture? Then apply for a cooperation with us until May 17, 2024!

Open Call für Produktionen an der Schwankhalle

The Schwankhalle is a performance and production venue for the independent performing arts in Bremen with a focus on contemporary productions in the fields of performance, dance and theater. With this open call, we would like to make the selection process for projects by Bremer artists and groups that are to be realized at the Schwankhalle more transparent.

We currently assume that we can realize 3-5 Bremer productions at the Schwankhalle in 2025. Artists and groups with a residency in Bremen planning a new production in 2025 that they would like to realize at the Schwankhalle are invited to submit their project ideas. The condition for cooperation is the application for single project funding at the Senator for Culture Bremen (text in german language) ↗.

In addition to assistance with the application, the Schwankhalle will offer the selected productions:
• up to 4 weeks of rehearsal time on the rehearsal stage
• dramaturgical feedback from the artistic direction of the Schwankhalle
• free use of the stage for the final rehearsal phase and 2-3 performance days
• use of the technical infrastructure

How can you apply?

Send us the following documents by May 17, 2024:

• A short description of your project plan (content-related and artistic), max. 1,500 characters
• Information on the organizational frame of the project: planned location/ spatial design, target group, planned financing (e.g., funding possibilities and ongoing applications)
• Information on the participants

These documents give us insight into your ideas and interests, your artistic and organizational plans. Feel free to describe the state of your ongoing work and mention open questions. Send your documents in a single PDF (max. 5 MB) under the reference “OPEN CALL 25” to programm@schwankhalle.de

We will respond to the applications by the end of June 2024. If we are interested in the submitted project, we will arrange a date for a meeting in the second half of August 2024 during which we can discuss questions related to content, budget and time schedule and agree on possible rehearsal times and performance dates.

The number of artists and groups with which we arrange an initial meeting may be higher than the number of productions that can be realized at the Schwankhalle. A final confirmation will be made once the financing has been secured, usually in the case of a successful single project funding by the Senator for Culture Bremen or another funding. We currently assume that we can realize 3-5 productions at the Schwankhalle in 2025.
