Leila Akinyi began her career as a hip-hop artist and singer in 2016 in a vociferous, direct and fearless way. The self-designated ›Afro-Spartana‹ pursues her path with a message and an attitude. Born in Mombasa and raised in Cologne, she unfolds her trilingual, self-confident discourse on misogyny and sexism, racism and oppression, combining transcultural solidarity with post-identitary empowerment. Leila Akinyi’s sound fuses rap, soul, R&B, dancehall, and afrobeat. With her three EPs, numerous singles and collaborations with artists from Central America, Africa and Europe, she enthuses not only the German-speaking audience.
