film:art 84 brings together award-winning shorts and videos that confuse, unsettle or astound us. As early as 1934, Oskar Fischinger made an army of cigarettes the protagonists of his famous commercial ›Muratti greift ein‹. The film ›Der Lauf der Dinge‹ (›The Way Things Go‹) by the Swiss artist duo Fischli/Weiss, which was produced for the documenta 1987 and led to their international breakthrough, gives the impression of a long physical experiment. In ›Wantee‹, Laure Prouvost, the winner of the Turner Prize, creates the living room of her fictive grandfather, allegedly an artist colleague of Kurt Schwitters. In a monstrous theater of objects, the animation film ›Sieben mal am Tag beklagten wir unser Los und nachts stehen wir auf, um nicht zu träumen‹ by Susann Maria Hempel, which won several awards, tells an unsettling story of abuse and trauma. In their music clip ›Electrotechnique‹, the artist duo Lernert/Sander transforms simple household devices into slightly sadomasochistic sex machines.
